The Best Tools for DIY and Home Improvement Beginners

These are the best tools for DIY beginners to invest in. Tools can get expensive but you don’t have to buy them all at once! Slowly collect as you go and as you need them. They also make great gifts!

First Up….A Drill!

Really this falls at the top of the “Every Adult should Own” List. But if you don’t already have a drill then you are definitely going to need one!

Nail Gun

My #1 favorite and the next tool I would recommend….hands down is A NAIL GUN!

You can get away without a lot of things or with borrowing tools, but the day I bought our nail gun was life changing. Before owning a nail gun we spent ridiculous amounts of time hand nailing finish nails into boards and using liquid nails too much. I wish we would have bought it much sooner!

This is the gun that we have and love!

#2 Multi Tool

This is also one that we took WAY too long to buy. In fact, we didn’t even know it existed until we were having LVP installed in our Seattle home and the installer used it to trim down the door moldings. Luke and I were both like

“WHAT.IS.THAT.MAGICAL.TOOL???”

Again- no going back ever since we bought it. It is so versatile and we use it all the time.

Its nice having a sharp blade when you need it so we also bought this multi pack of metal and wood blades to have on hand.

#3 Miter saw

Next, is a saw. This is a hard one for me… if you are doing pretty simple projects, you can get away with having Lowes/Home Depot pre-cut a lot of things for you. And this is a big tool that takes up a large chunk of storage space. However it is also so convenient and totally necessary for any medium to large scale DIY’s. I would be pretty committed to DIY home improvement and not hiring out every project before buying it.

OPTIONAL but AWESOME- Best Tools for DIY

#4 Jigsaw

Oh the freedom! This is a recent purchase of mine and it is the best. Not super expensive but gives you the freedom to do any shape of cut. Kind of like scissors for wood 🙂

#5 Orbital Sander

Orbital Sanders work a lot better than the mouse sanders and I wish I had gotten this a lot sooner as well. If you are doing furniture refinishing or anything that requires a lot of sanding, this makes the process a lot easier!
