Our Story

Home with Hay from the Beginning

Hi!  Home with Hay was born after we moved across the country and away from all of our family and friends.  During this time, there was a world wide pandemic and I felt very disconnected. I found myself really enjoying the new DIY skills I had developed in the previous years.

When I first started DIY-ing, it felt like an unpleasant learning process. But it soon grew into an enjoyable outlet and passion. I had so many ideas for our 15 year old home, but a tight budget to go with it.

It’s More Than Just a Pretty Space

Here’s a little back information about me. I have a Bachelors degree in Psychology. For years I worked with girls and women who battled various mental illnesses.  Mental health is also a passion of mine that crosses over into all aspects of our life!

I am a firm believer that…..

1.  Everyone needs an outlet that fulfills them.

2.  The environment in which we spend our time can have a significant impact on our mental health.

In my opinion, this environment includes the physical environment of your home.

With my fourth child, I struggled with prenatal and postpartum anxiety and depression.  As I navigated these struggles, the process of transforming an interior space was very therapeutic and provided me with a much needed outlet.  I found joy and fulfillment during the process, as well as after when I spent time in the spaces that I created and that were very consistently “me”.

The Present- Home with Hay

In 2018 we moved from Utah to Seattle where we took on a lot of projects to update our house and make it more family friendly. Now we are here in North Carolina, making a builder grade home our own and exploring the South for the first time. I’ve come to love all things DIY and am learning something new everyday. Come follow along on our Home with Hay Instagram @homewithhay for details of our DIY transformations.  Also included are our adventures and the daily chaos we call life.
